Direct Indirect Speech

Ø  Direct Speech adalah Upaya untuk Melaporkan apa yang seseorang telah diucapkan, seperti dalam Pertanyaan, Pernyataan atau yang lain, dengan mengutip persis perkataannya.

Ø  Indirect Speech adalah Mengubah Format apa yang seseorang telah katakan agar lebih jelas dan efisien bagi Pendengarnya.

Aturan – aturan perubahan kalimat dari direct ke indirect speech :

I.        To be & Auxiliary Verbs

Direct > Indirect

Have/has to > had to

Shall/will > should/would

Am/is/are > was/were

Can > could

May > might

II.      Tenses

Direct > Indirect

Present continuous > past continuous

Simple present > simple past

Simple future > past future

Present perfect continuous > past perfect continuous

III.    Time & Place

Direct > Indirect

Now > then

Tonight > that night

Tomorrow > the following day

Next week > the following week

IV.    Contoh Kalimat

a.       Statement/Pernyataan

Direct speech:

He said, “I work in a bank”

Indirect speech:

He said that he worked in a bank.

Direct speech:

She said, “I am sad now”

Indirect Speech:

She said that she was sad then.

Direct speech:

I told Harry, “I can fix this computer soon”

Indirect speech:

I told to him that I could fix this computer immediately.

·         Jika Verb di reporting sentence present maka verb di reported sentence tidak berubah

Direct speech:

Niall Horan tells to me, “I am reading a book now”

Indirect speech:

Niall Horan told to me that he is reading a book then.

Direct speech:

Louis says “I have had lunch with Chelsea Islan recently”

Indirect speech:

Louis said to Me that he has had lunch with Chelsea Islan recently.

Direct Speech:

Zayn Malik says, “This flower needs to be watering frequently”

Indirect Speech:

Zayn Malik said that this flower needs to be watering frequently.

Direct speech :

Ariana Grande told me “Come and visit us next week!”

Indirect speech :

Ariana Grande told to me to come and visit them the following week.

Direct speech :

Liam told me, “Don’t come home late!”

Indirect speech :

Liam told to me not to come home late.

Direct speech :

Louis asked “Don’t leave me alone!”

Indirect speech :

Louis asked that to not leave him alone.

Indirect speech :

Direct speech :

She told to him not to touch me.

Direct speech :

The gardener tells me “don’t step on the grass!”

Indirect speech :

The gardener told to me not to step on the grass.
